The professional jury has announced Igor Kluin with Qurrent as the WINNER of the 2007 PICNIC Green Challenge! The five finalists were selected from 439 entrants from 50 countries who sent in detailed plans for inventions that could help to combat climate change.
Jury chairman Sir Richard Branson of The Virgin Group announced the winner and awarded the 500.000 euro prize, made available by the Dutch Postcode Lottery, on Saturday 29 September during PICNIC 2007.
The five finalists were brought together four days earlier in Amsterdam. The following days they had a busy schedule between PICNIC events, meetings with VIP's and preparing for the final presentation on Friday evening.
Each finalist got to present their product in a 10 minute public presentation in front of a professional Jury which consisted of Avery Baker (Tommy Hilfiger), Helen Jones (Ben & Jerry's), Liesbeth van Tongeren (Greenpeace), John Thackara (Doors of Perception), Echart Wintzen (Ex'tent capital). Jury members Steve Howard (The Climate Group) and Richard Branson (Chairman, Virgin Group) were on the airplane back from the Clinton Global Summit in New York and joined jury deliberations early Saturday morning.
The Jury report praised the practicality of the Qurrent solution and it's true potential to cut CO2 emissions at a mass scale.
